At their April 2007 meeting, the IBC Board voted to discontinue accepting new applications for Certified Assessment Specialist (CAS), though we will continue to process recertifications for those who are currently certified as a CAS. In addition, the recertification requirement has changed for CAS as follows: a total of 40 hours will be required for recertification; of these, 3 hours must be in ethics and 6 must be a combination of 6 hours in Alcohol & Drug Specific and Special Populations. A combination is defined as hours in both areas totaling 6 hours. The remaining hours must be applicable to the assessment specialist field.
