Chemical Dependency Counselor
Job Description: 

Responsible for providing evaluation, counseling and therapeutic services to chemically dependent patients/families. The Chemical Dependency Counselor makes recommendations for treatment and acts as a liaison and patient/family advocate with the treatment network. The counselor supports the patient/family throughout treatment, maintains open communication with referral sources, patients/families and assists the patient/family to work towards positive outcomes. The counselor coordinates the patient’s care with the interdisciplinary treatment team. The patients served are adults.

Education Completion of an approved counselor’s training course of at least one year, or two-year AA degree in the human service field. Two years experience in a structured, supervised treatment setting may be substituted for the education requirement.

Qualifications/Experience Must be certified as a substance abuse, or alcoholism or chemical dependency counselor by IBC (or equivalent in another state that has reciprocity with Iowa) or be certification eligible. If chemically dependent or co-dependent, must have two years sobriety from mood altering chemicals and be actively participating in AA, NA or Al-Anon. See Website for full description
