Prevention Specialist (Webster City and Ames)
This individual will provide prevention and educational services in accordance with approved grants and contracts for services with funding agencies. This individual needs to be enthusiastic, detail-oriented and must possess excellent verbal and written skills. The employee will need to participate in community advocacy and be able to identify stakeholders in each community. Public speaking is an important part of the position as well as excellent documentation. A Bachelor's degree in Education, Community Health, degree in Nursing or closely related degree or experience, with a minimum of 2 years work experience in education, training, public relations or community activism is required OR a Bachelor's degree in Human Services with a minimum of 3 years work experience in a human service agency.
Primary responsibilities for this position are to demonstrate knowledge in prevention theory problem gambling and substance abuse information and public relations. One must understand community assessment and process, and must be able to absorb change and be a lifelong learner. In addition, this person must understand and be able to carry out the Strategic Prevention Framework, community activism and volunteer development models. Keeping informed regarding new information relevant to problem gambling and substance abuse prevention and to share this information with other prevention specialists is vital.
